4203 Spring Forest Road

SFPlayground

Spring Forest Road Park has a sand surface playground a short walk from the parking lot. If you are bringing a smaller tot, the walk may warrant using a stroller. Near the playground is a HUGE open field. According to Raleigh Parks and Rec website, it is one of the largest open places in the city of Raleigh. Adjacent to the playground is a sheltered picnic facility with bathrooms that can be rented out for $9/hour. This park also has a baseball/softball field and tennis courts.

The playground itself has very little shade. The equipment has several open areas and is fairly high, so not perfect for the youngest toddlers.

Pro’s

  • Nearby picnic shelter and bathrooms
  • Nearby field for …well, lots of things! Throwing a baseball, flying a kite, playing Frisbee
  • My kids loved all the sand! I am sure a portion of this playground is still stuck in the crevices of my car

Con’s

  • No shade. Although this might actually be a pro in the colder months of the year. Check out Eastgate Park and Millbrook Exchange Park for nearby playgrounds with more tree cover.
  • Young tots will need lots of help/supervision on the equipment
