We have been wanting to check out Warrior Tech ever since they had their grand opening in North Raleigh last year! We finally made it out for one of their special Saturday events when open rig was only $5 and it was a great way for my 6 year old to let out some pent-up energy. She was able to free play on the ninja warrior course and try her skills at some new, intimidating obstacles. It was so encouraging to see her observe the other kid’s techniques and then apply that herself to conquer her fear! She started out only being able to do one obstacle course but she kept trying and had mastered quite a few by the end of our time there!

What is Warrior Tech?

According to their website, Warrior Tech is not a gym or an entertainment center. Warrior Tech is a training facility where members can use the methodologies of obstacle course readiness and ninja warrior training to get fit and healthy. Large metal trusses called “rigs” hold the obstacles about 10 feet off the ground with a soft surface underneath for safety. They have multiple obstacle courses set up throughout the space, and during Open Rig you can try your hand at them all! I also love that there are plenty of staff members able to give tips and tricks as you play. Open Rig sessions allow you to self-train at your own pace and kids ages 5 up to 100 will have a blast testing their strength. The training course include some of the same obstacles you see on American Ninja Warrior, like a peg climbing wall and the ever popular warped walls!

Last year I inquired about bringing my 4 and 5 year old to open rig since the website says 5 and up. The front desk staff advised against bringing my 4 year old until she got a little older. Now that I have visited the space I completely agree! These obstacles are much more difficult than the ones found at the Elevate Fitness Course and Panthers Challenge Course. My 6 year old was pretty intimated by the sheer height of the course. It is much higher off the ground than I expected, but it’s so grown adults can use the course as well. This was by far the highest course she had ever been on and it was a pretty far drop to the ground for her. My 4 year old wouldn’t have been able to do anything here last year, so definitely wait until your kids are a little older and have the needed upper body strength to be successful! You don’t want them getting frustrated before they even start.

Climbing Walls

These aren’t the climbing walls you find at Greystone! While you won’t be harnessing in, the difficulty is much harder with less handholds and even a crazy pegboard obstacle wall! You’re supposed to move the pegs into the holes above your head in order to ascend the wall, but I didn’t see anyone actually complete this obstacle. I would say this peg wall is for the most extreme ninjas in the group!

My favorite was the Spider Wall, and mom even got in on the action here! There aren’t too many places where you are allowed to literally climb the walls! My 6 year old couldn’t figure out how to hold herself up, but I don’t think her arms and legs were long enough. I was excited to show her that mom can be a ninja too! There was even a trampoline available if you wanted to get a high-flying start!

Warped Wall

The warped wall seemed to be the most popular attraction! This test of strength can be found at lots of tot spots around Raleigh, like Defy and Sky Zone, but this one had an extra hole in the wall to help beginners. My girl was able to get to that first hand hold and hoist herself up. It was the first time she had ever been able to attempt one of these walls and I could tell it gave her a lot of confidence! She kept doing it over and over and didn’t want to leave!

Pricing

You can get the most up to date pricing on the Warrior Tech Website. They have memberships, punch cards, and individual passes available. They also host Parent’s Nights Out and classes for all ages, like Kids NinjaFit Classes and Adult Ninja Classes. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for special events where open rig is only $5! The event we attended had actual contestants from American Ninja Warrior and we got to watch them show off their skills on the rig!

Remember that closed toe shoes are required for participation. No crocs or dress shoes are allowed. If you just want to watch all of the ninjas in action, spectating is FREE and there’s a great seating area for the parents.
