Wake Forest Dairy Depot is the cutest little ice cream shop in Wake Forest! The kids loved it, so I figured it deserved it’s own review as a fun place to take the kids!
The building
I couldn’t find any historical information about the building, but it’s designed just like a train station so I wouldn’t be surprised if it was remodeled from one! There’s also a drive thru, which you don’t see at small ice cream shops very often.
There’s no indoor seating, but the patio seating sits up on a hill overlooking busy Rogers Rd. My boy was enthralled with watching the cars go by! In fact, he was so into watching the cars that he forgot to eat any ice cream!
The shop serves old fashioned blizzards/concretes/whatever you call ice cream with toppings mixed in. They call it a train wreck to go with the train station theme!
You can see their menu below. I’ll warn you, the large size is very large! My family of 5 actually shared one and I still felt like I ate too much ice cream! We got the birthday cake flavor with cheesecake bites mixed in. The birthday cake ice cream had a really great cake flavor, if you like that kind of ice cream. I was also impressed with the amount of cheesecake bites they added in, which may be why I was so full afterwards!

If you have a train-loving kid I think this is a great place to treat them! I wish they played up the train theme a bit more, maybe with railroad tracks or a play train on the patio, but maybe Brier Creek Park and Knightdale Station Park has spoiled me with their awesome train and barnyard themed playground! 🙂
