416 North Taylor Street, Wake Forest, NC

The Taylor Street sprayground in Wake Forest is a great FREE water activity during those unbearably hot NC summer months. It’s your nice, typical splash pad experience and it’s so convenient to those of us who live in North Raleigh/Wake Forest! If you are in or around Wake Forest, I definitely recommend checking it out!

Sprayground

The sprayground is a lot like all of the other splash pads in our area. It has your typical jets and sprayers for lots of fun water play in a zero depth area. Unfortunately it also has the bucket dumper, which is mine and my kids least favorite water feature. As a parent of a 1 and 2 year old I was constantly having to keep them from accidentally toddling under this thing or they would get knocked out by a bucket of water. They have been so traumatized they still don’t go near those things now! My 8 year old niece, however, loved standing right under the buckets!

I noticed another mother, who had obviously been to the sprayground often, brought a camping chair with her. I admit I wish I would have though of it myself! Unfortunately there’s not much seating, and what they do have isn’t very shaded. I definitely suggest bringing your own chair so you can follow the shade around during the hottest part of the afternoon!

Playground

The playground is right adjacent to the sprayground so you can easily play on both. It has a really fun wobbly bridge, a fairly big twisty slide, bucket (baby) swings, and 2 belt swings. It’s a small playground and the spray ground is definitely the main feature of this park. Although surprisingly my kids LOVED the wobbly bridge and we played on it a good bit before heading home.

There is also a covered picnic shelter with plenty of tables on the other side of the playground. Unfortunately It’s a little bit too far away from the sprayground to setup camp there for the day. You could plan to pack a lunch and move over there to eat and get a break from the sun, but you can’t sit there and safely supervise your kids at the sprayground at the same time.

The community center is also right next to the sprayground and has a nice bathroom that is accessible from the outside. I’ve never actually been inside the community center, but I’ve seen people go inside for programs before.

If you plan to make a visit, make sure you check the Taylor Street Sprayground website for updated operating hours. Luckily the town opens the splash pad earlier in the year than most others in the area. It usually opens at the end of April, instead of waiting for Memorial Day.

Check out our list of other spraygrounds, misting stations, and splash pads in the area! A few have small admission fees, but most are free. My top favorites are Knightdale Station, Holding Park, Millbrook, and Jack Smith!
