There’s a new splash pad in town! 🎉🎉🎉

On July 19th, 2019, Knightdale Station Park had the grand opening of their brand new state-of-the-art splash pad! We went that evening to check it out and I have to say, it’s my new favorite splash pad in town! As you can see, they continued the farm theme that is prevalent around Knightdale Station park, so it’s super cute and has all the water features my toddlers could ever want!

How is the Knightdale Station splash pad different from the others?

Unlike Jack Smith Park in Cary and Taylor Street Park in Wake Forest, this splash pad is entirely fenced in and separate from the playground. I love that I don’t have to worry about my toddlers wandering off! Inside the fence there are shaded benches along one edge for adults to sit, although I wish there were more around the entire outer edge. Like the other splash pads, don’t forget to push the button on the yellow pole to turn the water on.

One thing I LOVE about this splash pad is that it doesn’t have those terrible buckets that dump huge amounts of water every few seconds. My 1 year old is scarred for life after being washed out by those buckets so many times at other splash pads! Since there were no dumping buckets in sight, he ventured out further and was more willing to explore.

Pro Splash Pad Tip: Bring cups and buckets to a splash pad! I learned this from a friend. The kids love scooping the water and it will keep them entertained much longer!

Is there anything not to like?

My only complaint about this splash pad is that it will shut off frequently to cycle through the water. There’s a sign posted that explains that this happens when the PH levels get too high, so I know it’s just cleaning the water but it’s still inconvenient. We also visited last Friday morning and the splash pad didn’t turn on at 10:00 am like it’s supposed to. We waited a few minutes until someone actually had to call the city to come out and turn it on. Luckily they showed up quickly, and 10 minutes later we were rockin’ and rollin’! I’m sure it’s just some opening-day kinks they need to work out, although I still don’t understand why splash pads can’t turn on earlier than 10:00 am around here!

Pros

  • completely fenced in
  • shaded seating area
  • bathrooms nearby
  • no dumping buckets

Cons

  • Could use more seating
  • no picnic tables nearby
  • turns off frequently to clean water
