Apex Nature Park and Seymour Athletic Fields are two adjacent parks in Apex. We initially drove to the Apex Nature Park side, but it was a little confusing because the playground is actually located at Seymour Athletic Fields. I thought about walking the trail between the two, but with kids in tow I wasn’t sure how they would do going there and back. Once we drove to the right spot it was all worth it because the kids loved the giant climbing boulder on the playground and we spent quite a bit of time at this park!

Seymour Athletic Field Playground

Seymour Athletic field contains tennis, pickleball, and volleyball courts, as well as large multipurpose fields. We visited on a weekday morning and there were lots of people using the sports areas, but not so many on the playground.

The playground is located right next to the picnic shelter and restrooms. It’s a cute nature-themed structure with a large climbing boulder build into the side. I was fascinated with the rubber surface since it appears to be rubber mulch all melted together. I hadn’t seen a playground surface like that before, but it was super soft and bouncy! A perfect safety net if your child decides to test their limits climbing the tall boulder or has issues crossing the rope bridge.

There’s also a younger kids side of the playground that has climbing structures much lower to the ground. Even my big kids liked using this part of the playground as a type of obstacle course. The only downside to this playground is that it doesn’t get any shade, so it probably gets pretty hot on a summer afternoon!

Since the restrooms and picnic shelter are right next to the playground, this would be a great playground to host a birthday party! It’s also a perfect spot to grab a snack and potty break after you play!

Apex Nature Park

At the Apex Nature Park side of the park you will find walking trails, a disc golf course, and a large dog park. We also came across this building with some construction happening around it. Not sure what could be going in here, but it would be a great spot for another playground!
