We recently went to Vollmer Farm to pick blueberries and blackberries the first week in June. I really enjoy picking berries, and it’s a great activity to just get out of the house and go do something!

Vollmer Farm sells U-Pick blueberries and blackberries in the spring for about $6 per pound. The farm also has a little store that sells other fresh produce, jams, candy, farm toys and homemade ice cream.

The berry bushes are located a short walk behind the store. They are spaced out enough where you can bring a wagon or stroller with you, but it will be a bumpy ride. Most people with strollers just left them at the end of the row while they picked.

We also went early in the season so most of the ripe berries were up high out of the kids reach. If you go a little later in June this probably won’t be a problem.

Just a reminder, berry bushes are in direct sun. It gets hot FAST and don’t forget your sunscreen! We were all dying in the heat after about 20 minutes, so the ice cream shop was a great treat afterward! There are a few picnic tables on the front porch in the shade so we enjoyed hanging out for a while after.

Playground

There was also a small playground behind the store, but we were there in the morning and it was in direct sun. The kids loved the pirate ship and airplane, but this mama just couldn’t take the heat anymore so I didn’t let them play long.

One possible con I should mention is that the only bathroom facilities are porta-potties. However they do have a hand washing station and a changing table available next to the porta-potty. My primary issue with porta-potties is that I cannot easily fit myself and the kids in there all together, plus my kids are a little scared of them!

Fall Fun

The Fall season is really where Vollmer Farm has it’s time to shine! We haven’t been in the Fall yet, but we took a drive to the back forty entertainment area during our spring visit just to check it out. It reminded me a lot of Hill Ridge Farms with the hayrides, barrel racing, jumping pillow, and playground. There was a small pond with ducks as well. I’m sure there’s so much more available when the back forty is open in the fall, so we can’t wait to check it out!
