There’s a new ice cream spot in Northeast Raleigh! The Sugar Shack at Brown Dog acres is a local homestead turned ice cream shop, strategically located in an area without a lot of restaurant options!
We spoke with the owner at our last visit, and she explained how the idea of the Sugar Shack came about. During the pandemic, the family decided to make a big move down south and wanted a lot more land to spread out and play. They found a large parcel out on Rolesville Rd. and made the move during the height of social distancing. It was hard, but they had the idea to open an ice cream shop on the property. It took a while to get all of the necessary permits, but they were finally ready to open in the Summer of 2022!

However, this is so much more than your average ice cream shop! The owners have made this a great little family spot to sit and relax outside of the hustle and bustle of city life. Grab your icy treat and relax in one of the rocking chairs or picnic tables. Let your kids play on the playground while you admire the farmland or swing on the porch swing. You don’t have to worry about cars or traffic out here! Just let your kids roam free and enjoy a fancy shake at the Sugar Shack!
And let’s talk about those fancy shakes! Using Hershey ice cream and a mason jar you actually get to keep, they have created an amazing creation your taste buds will love! Come hungry and be ready for an intense sugar rush, or plan to share these giant shakes. They don’t only contain ice cream, but a lot of other fun additions like sprinkles, candy, or even a cupcake!

The only downfall to this place is that it is completely outdoors, so you won’t be able to sit and eat in bad weather. It’s on a gravel road and there’s no bathroom except a porta-potty. However, they do have a working sink on the outside of the shop for you to wash your hands. Knowing what all they have done to the place in the past few months, I wouldn’t be surprised if a bathroom was added at some point though!
