Today we did a craft from Toy Story 4. I have not actually seen Toy Story 4, my kids went to see it with their grandparents. Since then, they have been enamored by this little spork guy who just wants to go into the trash. I have to say, as a parent I really appreciate one thing from the Toy Story series…

THE PARENTS ARE ALIVE AND STAY ALIVE!!!!

I mean, the Disney franchise has a nasty habit of killing off parents. Either before the time of the movie (Beauty and the Beast) or during the movie. I’m looking at you Frozen – although some say the parents will return in Frozen 2, so time will tell.

But as far as simple crafts go, Forky is easy to make and has provided me with the downtime to write this blog and eat a snack undisturbed. My kids have been playing INDEPENDENTLY with their Forky toys for at least half an hour. Which is obviously better than gold. And also may not work for your kids, but hey – it’s worth a shot, right? This craft from Toy Story 4 just might save your sanity.

What do you need?

We tried Elmer’s glue for the eyes, but ended up using a hot glue gun for both the eyes and the Popsicle sticks. The kids needed some help to cut off the popsicle sticks with scissors and stacked them in a V shape before gluing on the fork. The kids wrapped the pipe cleaner around the fork for arms with a little help and then drew a red unibrow and blue mouth. I propped up the fork in standing on it’s stick feet for it to dry. Easy peasy!!

You can of course, skip the crafting and buy a forky if you prefer.

My kids did pretty good with sharpies, after a lecture of how they needed to be careful with them of course. I handled the hot glue gun, although my 6 year old is probably getting to a point where she could use one with close supervision.

I love doing craft time in the summer, during stormy afternoons. But if you prefer to be on the go, check out indoor play spaces here.
