I love this picture. It shows my daughter, with all the curiosity of 3 year old, looking out the window as we travel on a 25 minute train ride at the NC Transportation museum in Spencer, NC (about 2 hours from Raleigh)

Perhaps for the average family a Transportation Museum is just ho-hum. But my husbands business is 3d Scanning and Printing , specializing in vehicles. So we frequent car and transportation museums quite often. And we love them!

So, first things first. It’s just under 2 hours from our home in North Raleigh. So it’s a bit of a drive. Here is the cost:

So for $40 or less, a family of 4 (depending on if anyone is under 2 years of age) can take a 25 minute train ride and visit the museum. The museum includes cars, trains and vehicles of all sorts. You can also ride a train turn table for an additional $1/person.

Many indoor exhibits as well. They also have a covered, shaded kids play area. Just in case someone in your party is like my husband and wants to wander long after the children lose interest.

The children’s area has (of course) 3-4 train tables, mini golf and a good size sand play area as well. It’s a nice break from wandering around.

So it’s fun for the car/train enthusiast.

But here’s what I know some of you will be interested in if you have any Thomas the train fans in your home:

So, Thomas the train fans get ready to ride. Tickets are $20-32 a person, ages 2 and up. Neither of my kiddos are huge fans of Thomas, so we will be skipping this event. If you decide to go I would love to know how it goes!!

The other big event is the Polar Express Train which looks really fun. Tickets start at $30 for children and $36 for adults.

Not sure if we will be doing this yet or not… but as with Thomas, if you go let me know!!

What do you think? Does this look like a place you want to visit?
