3362 Lassiter Mills Circle

Not too far past North Hills area, inside the beltline you will fine Lassiter Mill Park and Crabtree Creek dam. There are a few parking spaces and you can walk past some grassy areas with a few picnic tables. Take a few hiking steps down hill (read: not stroller friendly) to a beach area. From there you can watch the water fall over the dam. I went just recently after several days of rain and the noise was a bit loud. But not obnoxious, just a white noise of falling water.

So, here in Raleigh we are not too far from the coast. But far enough where I can’t just go for a couple hours in the morning. My family was able to spend a couple of hours on a sandy shore and it was just so relaxing. The kids played in the sand and looked for fish at the water’s edge. My husband and I hung out on our blanket (it’s sand resistant!!)and watched the kids play. We were able to position ourselves under tree shade to stay cool while the kids ran around. We brought some water and a few snacks and spent about 3 hours or so.

Nearby is Crabtree Creek Greenway, which is nearly 12 miles long if you want to grab a stroller and go for a walk or run.

Things to remember:

  • No bathroom facilities at the park
  • The beach area is not stroller accessible and not the easiest to get too. Young children may need a hand
  • I would highly recommend water shoes, even along the shore as I saw several pieces of broken glass
  • The water noise can be a bit loud, which may be of a concern if you have children very sensitive to noise.

Check out other kid friendly places in the area here.

    1. I’m not sure but I don’t remember seeing signs it was prohibited. Unfortunately there was a good bit of trash so it may not be the best spot for a swim
